Kimberly Black King serves as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Grundy Cause, a
nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting artificial intelligence for societal benefit. The
Grundy Cause team collaborates with a variety of partners and clients to harness AI as a tool for
reducing development, operating, and corporate costs, enhancing efficiency in production —
including expedited delivery of affordable smart housing compatible with the sophistication of
technology, quality healthcare, high-caliber educational programs and other vital services
disinvested communities deserve in abundance.
With a distinguished career spanning more than 25 years, Kimberly is recognized for her
leadership in real estate development, community revitalization, change management, finance,
corporate strategy, operations, and cultural advancement. Her strategic guidance has led to
significant and measurable achievements across both public and private sectors throughout the
nation.
Before launching The Grundy Cause, Kimberly served as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of
Housing and Urban Development, an appointment by President Joe Biden, where she provided
expert guidance on housing and community development policy and initiatives.
Prior to her appointment, Kimberly held two executive positions at Volunteers of America
National Services. As Chief Real Estate Development Officer, she oversaw all aspects of real estate
development, construction management, finance, workforce housing, and Innovative Housing
Solutions. Subsequently, as Interim Chief Operating Officer, she reported to the 18-member board
while performing delegated CEO duties within the federated organizational structure. Under
Kimberly’s leadership, the development pipeline doubled, annual fee revenue reached record
levels, holding company assets tripled, the organization was recognized on the Top AHF 50
Developer list, and the post-COVID sustainability plan was developed and implemented.
Kimberly’s executive and senior experience also includes serving as Chief of Real Estate
Development for the District of Columbia Housing Authority, Director of the District of Columbia
New Communities Initiative, Director of the CSH Mid-Atlantic Office, Senior Manager at Fannie
Mae, and Vice President/Project Manager at McCormack Baron Salazar. Throughout her career,
Kimberly has secured over $2.556 billion in infrastructure, development, and human services
financing, supporting approximately 5.775 million square feet of residential, amenity, and
commercial space
